7 Officers Inducted into South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame
COLUMBIA — Seven distinguished South Carolina law enforcement officers were inducted into the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame on Thursday, recognized for their exceptional dedication and contributions to the profession.
The ceremony, held at the Hall of Fame, honored officers who have demonstrated a consistent record of excellence. Each inductee met the requirements for a meritorious achievement award and Hall of Fame recognition, including a minimum of 25 years of law enforcement service. Nominees are only eligible if they have not been employed in law enforcement for at least five years or may be nominated posthumously.
Robert G. Woods IV, Director of the South Carolina Department of Public Safety and chair of the SC Law Enforcement Officers Hall of Fame Advisory Committee, addressed the audience during the induction. “It is a privilege to be here today as we honor these incredible law enforcement professionals who have dedicated their lives to the service of others,” Woods said. “Their induction into the Hall of Fame will ensure their sacrifices are remembered for generations to come.”
Representatives from each officer’s respective agency presented the nominations, highlighting their career achievements and dedication to public service. This year’s honorees are:
- Colonel Anna J. Amos, South Carolina State Transport Police
- Chief Wendell Davis, Orangeburg Department of Public Safety
- Lieutenant Horace P. “Hoss” Horton Jr., South Carolina Law Enforcement Division
- Lieutenant M.B. “Sonny” Huggins III, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division
- Sheriff R. Eugene Johnson, Laurens County Sheriff’s Office
- Chief William C. “Bill” Mobley, York Police Department
- Director Alvin A. Taylor, South Carolina Department of Natural Resources
Since the first induction ceremony in October 2017, 56 officers have been inducted, including this year’s seven honorees. The Hall of Fame was established in 1974 by the South Carolina General Assembly to honor officers who died in the line of duty and recognize those who exemplify excellence in law enforcement. The advisory committee selects the honorees based on this mission, ensuring a lasting legacy for South Carolina’s law enforcement heroes.
