Friend of Alex Murdaugh, Jordan Jinks is Now at Center of Active SLED Investigation in Hampton County
By James Seidel | CC News Network | Broken Badges Series
HAMPTON COUNTY, S.C., — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is now confirming that an “active and ongoing” investigation is underway involving Hampton County Councilman Jordan Jinks — a man known publicly not only as a local elected official, but also as a longtime former friend of convicted attorney Alex Murdaugh.
According to SLED, the investigation began after the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office formally requested state assistance on April 2, 2026.
In a statement provided to media, SLED confirmed:
“On April 2, 2026, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) received a request from the Hampton County Sheriff’s Department to investigate alleged misconduct involving Jordan Jinks, a Hampton County Councilman.”
The agency added that the investigation remains “active and ongoing at this time.”
At this stage, Jinks has not been arrested, indicted, or charged with any crime.
When contacted by local media, Jinks declined to comment.

Longtime Connection to Alex Murdaugh
Jinks became nationally known during the financial crime fallout surrounding the Alex Murdaugh saga after alleging that Murdaugh — a man he described as a lifelong friend — stole settlement money belonging to him.
During prior television interviews, Jinks described growing up alongside Murdaugh and trusting him completely.
“I grew to be loyal to him. He was loyal to me, I thought,” Jinks previously said during an interview discussing the financial allegations against Murdaugh.
According to allegations previously discussed publicly, Jinks claimed two settlement checks totaling approximately $150,000 were improperly diverted instead of being deposited into his account.
Attorney Eric Bland, who represented several alleged financial crime victims connected to Murdaugh, once described Jinks as a “lifetime friend” of the disgraced attorney.
“They grew up together, played ball together,” Bland previously stated in media interviews.
Bland is also now under investigation by the South Carolina Office of Disciplinary Counsel of the Supreme Court for numerous alleged ethics violations.
Property Dispute Allegations Surfaced Earlier This Year
Public attention surrounding Jinks intensified in March after a Hampton County woman posted allegations on social media claiming a property dispute involving a member of her family had been turned over to SLED.
However, law enforcement officials have not publicly confirmed whether those allegations are connected to the current investigation.
After requests were made for incident reports and investigative records, the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office reportedly referred inquiries directly to SLED, identifying the state agency as the lead investigative authority.
Freedom of Information Act requests seeking additional records related to the matter reportedly remain pending.
Jinks Recently Spoke Out About Murdaugh Retrial
Ironically, Jinks was again making headlines only days ago after publicly commenting on the South Carolina Supreme Court’s decision overturning Alex Murdaugh’s murder convictions.
Speaking publicly after the ruling, Jinks acknowledged that despite believing Murdaugh betrayed him financially, he still believed Murdaugh deserved a fair trial.
“Everybody in this country deserves a fair trial,” Jinks stated during a televised interview discussing the retrial decision.
The South Carolina Supreme Court ruled that former Colleton County Clerk of Court Becky Hill improperly influenced jurors during the nationally watched double murder trial, finding that Hill had effectively “placed her fingers on the scales of justice.”
That ruling paved the way for a new murder trial for Murdaugh.
Political and Public Fallout Could Grow
Jinks, who previously served on Yemassee Town Council, was elected to Hampton County Council in 2022 and took office in January 2023.
At present, SLED has stated there are no additional investigations involving other Hampton County elected officials or the sheriff himself.
As of now, officials have not released the specific nature of the allegations involving Jinks, and no determination of wrongdoing has been made.
This remains a developing story.
