Grayson McCall Returns to Coastal Carolina as Offensive Analyst
One of the greatest players in Coastal Carolina football history is returning home. Former standout quarterback Grayson McCall will join the Chanticleers as an offensive analyst under new coordinator Drew Hollingshead, Coastal Carolina Head Coach Tim Beck announced Monday.
“Thrilled to be able to welcome Grayson McCall back home to Teal Nation,” Beck said. “I have spoken before on the immeasurable impact he made here—both on the game and in our community—and we couldn’t be more excited that he will start his coaching career at Coastal. I am looking forward to seeing what Drew Hollingshead and Grayson can do while working together to elevate our offense to new heights.”
“So fired up to come back home!” McCall said. “I’m very thankful for Coach Beck and Coach Hollingshead for giving me such a great opportunity. Can’t wait to light up the scoreboard in Brooks just like old times! Chants Up!”

McCall’s Journey: From Coastal to NC State
After a stellar career at Coastal Carolina, Grayson McCall transferred to NC State in early 2024 to utilize his final season of eligibility. However, his time at NC State was cut short after suffering a severe head injury during a game against Wake Forest in October 2024. Following the injury, McCall announced his retirement from playing football.
McCall’s decision to transfer initially raised eyebrows, as Coastal Carolina underwent significant changes last offseason, including the departure of former head coach Jamey Chadwell, who left for Liberty University. Coastal’s 2024 season was marked by inconsistency, with the team finishing 6-6 and played in the Myrtle Beach Bowl, which was covered live by the CC News Network.
The 2024 Myrtle Beach Bowl showcased not just a dominant performance by the UTSA Roadrunners but also intriguing connections between key players and their football roots. On a chilly Monday, December 23, UTSA defeated Coastal Carolina 44-15 at Brooks Stadium, marking their second consecutive bowl win and solidifying their rise in college football.

Despite his short stint at NC State, McCall remains one of the most accomplished players in Coastal Carolina history, and his return as an offensive analyst is seen as a major boost for the Chanticleers program.
