Man Charged with Operating Chop Shop in Orangeburg, Accused of Altering Stolen Vehicle VINs
ORANGEBURG, S.C. — A South Carolina man has been arrested and charged with operating a chop shop and falsifying vehicle identification numbers on stolen vehicles, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
Rakeem Lamonte Brown, 31, is accused of possessing stolen trucks and using a property at 2106 Old Edisto Drive in Orangeburg as a chop shop to store stolen vehicles and vehicle parts, according to warrants released Monday by SLED.

The vehicles involved were all Ford trucks with values exceeding $54,000. Authorities said the trucks were reported stolen from Kernersville, North Carolina; Polk County, Georgia; and Polk County, Florida.
The warrants allege that Brown had in his possession a stolen Ford F-350, a stolen F-450, a stolen F-350 registered as an F-250, and a stolen F-350 registered as an F-450. Investigators also found that some of the trucks had altered vehicle identification numbers (VINs) that were falsified “with the intent to conceal the true VIN.”

Brown faces two counts of receiving, possessing, concealing, selling, or disposing of a stolen vehicle; two counts of falsifying a VIN; and one count of operating a chop shop.
He was booked into the Orangeburg County Detention Center on Dec. 13.
This case remains under investigation by SLED.
The case will be prosecuted by the 1st Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
