Russian Threats to Europe and U.S. While Unable to Topple Ukraine Since 2022

MOSCOW, Russia — In a dramatic escalation of rhetoric, a Russian television host and ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that European peacekeepers deployed to Ukraine under a proposed ceasefire deal brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump would be targeted and killed by Russian forces.
Vladimir Solovyov, a state TV host honored by Putin for his propaganda efforts, declared, “We can easily destroy all these countries, at least their capitals, which send peacekeepers.” He specifically singled out Britain, Germany, and France, describing peacekeepers as “interventionists.” Solovyov also cautioned European mothers to prepare for the deaths of their sons, saying, “You will send your sons, and they will all be destroyed. War will come to your homes.”

The remarks come as Trump pushes for a peace agreement in Ukraine, including the deployment of non-American troops to stabilize the region. British leader Keir Starmer hinted at the U.K.’s participation, saying, “We will play our full part.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for at least 200,000 European troops to secure his nation, warning that anything less would be inadequate.
While Russia continues its aggressive rhetoric, its military struggles in Ukraine persist nearly two years after its invasion. Putin’s forces have failed to achieve their primary goal of seizing Kyiv, leaving the Kremlin to contend with a protracted stalemate and severe economic consequences. Even after bringing in Iranian drones and North Korean soldiers, who are getting slaughtered by Ukrainian troops.
Trump has vowed to increase sanctions on Russia should Putin refuse to negotiate, telling reporters that Putin is “destroying Russia by not making a deal.” Trump also urged European Union nations to step up their contributions to Ukraine, pointing out the U.S.’s $200 billion aid package compared to Europe’s smaller share. “The European Union should be paying a lot more than they’re paying,” Trump said.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio supported Trump’s efforts, emphasizing that peace must include measures to ensure Ukraine’s security and regional stability. “Russia has already faced consequences,” Rubio said, citing economic turmoil, rising inflation, and significant military losses. He added, “The President should be lauded for wanting to stop the dying and destruction.”
Despite Russia’s threats and tough talk, the ongoing war has exposed its military and economic vulnerabilities. While Solovyov boasts of destroying European capitals, Moscow’s inability to decisively defeat Ukraine continues to undermine its position on the global stage.
British Defense Secretary John Healey informed Parliament on Wednesday that the Royal Navy had tracked a Russian vessel, identified as the Yantar, passing through U.K. waters. Healey accused the ship of gathering intelligence and mapping critical underwater infrastructure. “I want President Putin to hear this message: We see you, we know what you’re doing, and we will not hesitate to take robust action to protect this country,” Healey stated. The Yantar entered British waters on Monday, approximately 45 miles off the coast, prompting the Royal Navy to deploy two ships to monitor its movements. Healey said the vessel was detected “loitering over U.K. critical undersea infrastructure,” underscoring concerns about Russia’s activities near vital resources.
