HOUSTON, Texas — A 23-year-old nursing student from the United Kingdom was fatally stabbed just days before her graduation in what police say was a violent escalation of a dispute over cats with her roommate.
Tamilore Odunsi, a popular TikTok creator known as @tamidollars, was found dead on April 26 inside her apartment on the south side of Houston. Her roommate, Chester Lamar Grant, 40, has been charged with murder and is being held in the Harris County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded to Odunsi’s apartment around 4 p.m. for a welfare check. After receiving no answer at the front door, officers walked around to the back and noticed blood on the concrete patio. Upon entering the unit, they found Odunsi in the kitchen suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Grant was discovered in the bedroom with at least one self-inflicted stab wound. Detectives later revealed he had stabbed himself six times, including once in the neck, in what appeared to be a suicide attempt. He was hospitalized in critical condition before being booked into jail on May 3.
Investigators believe the fatal stabbing followed an ongoing argument between the two roommates regarding their pet cats. Grant and Odunsi had been living together for approximately two months.
Odunsi was just days away from graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and had planned to work with children, according to a GoFundMe account established by her family. In the final video posted to her TikTok account five days before her death, Odunsi celebrated her upcoming graduation, dancing in her scrubs alongside captions that read: “23 years old,” “BSN grad in 2 weeks,” and “Starting to look human again.”

“Tami was a beautiful soul, full of light, ambition, and kindness,” the fundraiser reads. “A devoted Christian, she was a God-fearing young woman who found strength and joy in her faith… Her death is an unimaginable loss at a moment that should have marked the beginning of a bright and promising future.”
Odunsi gained a following of more than 41,000 on TikTok for sharing her experiences as a British student navigating as a nursing student in the U.S., often offering study tips and motivational content to fellow students.
Grant is scheduled to appear in court Monday, May 5.
This case remains under investigation.
