The Murdaugh Files: An Investigative Tour
Hosted by Investigative Journalist James Seidel
Not a sightseeing tour. An Murdaugh investigation you walk through.
For years, James Seidel has covered the Murdaugh saga and the Stephen Smith case from the courtroom to the crime scenes — through original reporting, books, interviews, and trial coverage most people only saw secondhand. Now he’s taking a small group of guests through the same ground, in person, for one full day.
Books Written:
This is South Carolina’s only tour of its kind: a documented, fact-based walk through the locations, timeline, and evidence behind one of the most-covered criminal cases in modern American history — led by the person who’s spent years reporting it, not a script.
What You’ll Experience
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM | Colleton and Hampton Counties
Every stop is built on court testimony, investigative records, and verified reporting — not rumor, not speculation.
Colleton County Courthouse Where the trial happened. Courtroom exhibits, trial strategy, and the verdict, explained by someone who was there.
Moselle The public areas surrounding the property where Maggie and Paul Murdaugh were killed. Aerial photography, maps, and timelines walk you through how investigators reconstructed June 7, 2021. We will spend considerable time here with some investigative tests performed in public areas.
Lunch at Fat Jack’s, Walterboro A working lunch — open discussion, questions from the morning’s stops.
Old Salkehatchie Road The site of the roadside incident that cracked open Alex Murdaugh’s financial crimes.
Almeda The tiny crossroads of Almeda [Alex’s Parent’s Former Home] are surprisingly important because of their proximity to Moselle and the route taken before and after the murders.
The Stephen Smith Investigation Sandy Run Road, where Stephen was found. A close look at the competing theories, the publicly known evidence, and where the investigation stands today.
Stephen Smith’s Gravesite A moment to pause and reflect — on his life, and on the questions his family is still owed answers to.
PMPD – Alex’s former law firm
Murdaugh Family Cemetery Closing the day with the rise and collapse of one of South Carolina’s most powerful legal dynasties.
Additional public-road stops connected to the case may be included, always with respect for private property and the surrounding community.
A Note on How We Do This
These are real cases with real victims and families still living with the aftermath — including the Smith family, who are still searching for answers. This tour is built on verified facts and public record, told with care, not sensationalism. [a portion of proceeds supports ongoing efforts to find answers in the Stephen Smith case.]
