President Trump Fires Remaining Biden-Appointed Federal Prosecutors, Sparking Uncertainty in South Carolina

WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump has begun firing the remaining federal prosecutors appointed by former President Joe Biden, a move that has caused confusion due to a lack of coordination with the Justice Department’s Executive Office for U.S. Attorneys.
Why It Matters
Trump’s decision to remove Biden-appointed federal prosecutors signals a shift in federal prosecution priorities, particularly in areas like immigration enforcement. However, the move has reportedly left some offices scrambling, as the DOJ was not consulted beforehand, however they should have known it was coming.
According to a Bloomberg report on February 13, Trump’s administration has not implemented a transition plan for at least one federal district, raising concerns over who will sign court filings in affected offices.
It is unclear yet if federal prosecutor Adair Ford Boroughs has been fired by President Trump. A message into the DOJ in Washington D.C. has not been returned yet.

What We Know So Far
Since the Bill Clinton administration, it has been common practice for incoming presidents to replace federal prosecutors from previous administrations. However, sources told Bloomberg that Trump’s latest firings were delivered in a one-sentence email, informing U.S. attorneys of their immediate termination at the direction of the president.
Among those removed were U.S. attorneys in Seattle, Baltimore, and San Francisco. Additionally, Bloomberg reported that departing U.S. attorneys were given only two days to justify why the assistant prosecutors they had hired in recent years should be retained by the Trump administration.
Targeting January 6 Prosecutors
According to Bloomberg, the White House has specifically targeted attorneys involved in the prosecution of Trump supporters for their participation in the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
In late January, Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove instructed the acting U.S. Attorney in Washington, D.C., to fire prosecutors who had worked on January 6 riot cases.
Since assuming office, Trump has also ordered the removal of hundreds of civil servants, government watchdogs, and career officials across multiple federal agencies.
Reaction and Response
Reuters reported that the White House email sent to Biden-appointed U.S. attorneys this week read:
“At the direction of President Donald J. Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as U.S. Attorney is terminated, effective immediately.”
In response, Erek Barron, the former U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland, sent an office-wide farewell email, stating:
“As many of you may know by now, my time with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland has come to an end. It has been an honor to lead such a talented and dedicated team.”
What Happens Next?
President Trump is now moving to replace U.S. attorneys nationwide with his own nominees, who will require Senate confirmation.
According to the Senate website, while the majority of nominations are routinely confirmed, a small but highly scrutinized number of appointees may face resistance or rejection.
As President Trump reshapes the federal prosecution system, critics warn that the sudden and sweeping removals could slow down major federal cases and undermine the stability of the Justice Department. However, many proponents are cheering this action of President Trump as many U.S. Attorneys have filed numerous politically motivated charges against citizens who were doing the right thing but prosecuted nonetheless by the left-wing agenda against then former President Trump and his programs.
