USTA Dominates Coastal Carolina in Myrtle Beach Bowl First Half
The Myrtle Beach Bowl is off to an explosive start, with the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) commanding a dominant 21-0 lead over Coastal Carolina at halftime. The game, held under clear, but chilly skies at Brooks Stadium, has showcased UTSA’s well-rounded attack, leaving Coastal struggling to find answers.
UTSA quarterback Owen McCown has been in fine form, orchestrating three scoring drives with precision and poise. The Roadrunners capitalized early, with a combination of effective passing and a bruising ground game that kept Coastal’s defense on its heels. USTA has 173 yards by the air, and 128 yards on the ground. Compared to Coastal with just 67 yards by the air, and 73 yards rushing.

On the other side, Coastal Carolina has had a rough start to the game. New quarterback Tad Hudson, recently stepping into the starting role, has faced immense pressure from UTSA’s defensive front. Despite flashes of promise, Hudson has struggled to establish rhythm in the passing game, completing only a handful of short passes and suffering a costly interception late in the second quarter.

Coastal’s offense, known for its dynamic and high-scoring capabilities, has been held to minimal yardage, leaving fans eager to see if Hudson can ignite a comeback in the second half. Head coach Tim Beck expressed confidence in his young quarterback during a sideline interview, stating, “Tad is finding his footing out there. We believe in his ability to get us back in this game.”
The Chanticleers’ defense, led by linebacker Tray Brown, has had moments of brilliance, but have failed to stop USTA’s offense. However, the unit has been on the field for extended periods, unable to contain UTSA’s relentless pace.
As the second half approaches, all eyes will be on Hudson and Coastal Carolina’s adjustments. Can the Chanticleers rally and turn the tide, or will UTSA continue its dominant performance to secure the Myrtle Beach Bowl title?
Stay tuned for updates from the Myrtle Beach Bowl as the action unfolds in the second half.
